Two volunteers greeted visitors as Ruby Raindrop and Sammy Soil, mascots of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Over 200 students from Elba Elementary School, Kinston School, New Brockton Elementary School, and Zion Chapel High School participated in the educational event. The students learned about nature’s water cycle, filtering techniques to remove pollutants from our water supply, and the movement of groundwater through underground soil or rock, known as an aquifer. Through hands-on learning sessions, the students experienced the difficulty of cleaning water, became more knowledgeable of the different forms of natural water, and enjoyed making and eating an ice cream concoction representing an aquifer.
